Birdwatching in Havelock

Havelock is more than turquoise waters and beautiful beaches. Beyond the shoreline, the island opens into a world of forests, mangroves, wetlands and coastal habitats — alive with birds and the quiet rhythms of nature.

Birdwatching gives you a different way to experience the Andamans. Walk slowly beneath the canopy, listen for a call in the distance, watch the branches move, and let the forest reveal what is often missed when we hurry.

You may encounter birds such as the Andaman Drongo, Andaman Bulbul, Andaman Serpent Eagle, White-headed Starling and Collared Kingfisher.

Beyond the Beach

Most journeys to Havelock begin with the sea. Ours can take you a little further — into the forest.

Here, every walk becomes an opportunity to notice something new: a bird moving quietly through the canopy, a flash of colour among the leaves, or the unmistakable call of a species found nowhere else.

Birdwatching isn’t about how many birds you can tick off a list.

It is about learning to see the island.

Walk the Forest

Explore the quieter side of Havelock, where tropical forest meets the coast.

Listen to the Island

Bird calls, rustling leaves and distant wings become part of the experience.

Look Closer

Take your time. The longer you observe, the more the forest begins to reveal.

Why We Birdwatch

At Andamanica, we believe nature is best experienced slowly.

Birdwatching encourages us to pause, observe and understand the living landscape around us. Every bird is part of a larger ecosystem — connected to the trees, insects, water, forest and sea.

So we don’t simply go looking for birds.

We go looking for stories.

Come for Havelock’s beaches. Walk into its forests. Leave knowing a little more about the wild island in between.

Free diving

Freediver below the water surface, supplied by Andamanica

Free Diving in Havelock

Explore the underwater world of Havelock on a single breath, where calm movement and body awareness open a different way of experiencing the sea. Free diving offers an immersive opportunity to explore shallow reefs, swim alongside marine life, and experience the underwater landscape without the use of a scuba air supply.

Depending on the site and conditions, you may encounter green sea turtles, humphead parrotfish, clownfish (Nemo), butterflyfish, angelfish, surgeonfish, wrasses, and colourful reef fish moving among vibrant coral gardens. The reefs may feature branching staghorn corals, table corals, brain corals, mushroom corals, and soft corals, creating shelter and feeding grounds for a remarkable variety of marine life.

Free diving is a trained activity that focuses on technique, relaxation, efficient movement, and awareness—not on testing how long you can hold your breath. Proper instruction, supervision, and suitable sea conditions are essential. Participants should never free dive alone and should always maintain a respectful distance from marine life and coral reefs.

Herping in Havelock

Herping Experience in Havelock

Havelock, in the Andaman Islands, offers an exceptional opportunity to explore the diversity of reptiles in their natural habitats. During our herping experience, we ventured into the forest and carefully searched through leaf litter, vegetation, tree trunks, rocks, and other microhabitats where snakes and other reptiles can be found.

Our observations included fascinating species such as the Andaman Krait (Bungarus andamanensis), Andaman Cat Snake (Boiga andamanensis), Andaman Trinket Snake (Coelognathus subradiatus), Andaman Green Vine Snake (Ahaetulla nasuta), Yellow-lipped Sea Krait (Laticauda colubrina), and Andaman Keelback.

The experience allowed us to observe these remarkable reptiles in their natural surroundings and learn about their behaviour, habitats, and ecological importance. Herping in Havelock was not only an exciting field experience but also an opportunity to appreciate the unique biodiversity of the Andaman Islands and understand the importance of responsible wildlife observation and conservation.

Mangrove walking

Mangrove trees and exposed roots beside reflective water, supplied by Andamanica

Mangrove Walk

Walk through the fascinating coastal forests of Havelock, where the land meets tidal water and the shoreline changes with the movement of the sea. A mangrove walk offers an opportunity to observe the intricate root systems, coastal vegetation, tidal channels, and wildlife that depend on this unique ecosystem.

Along the walk, you may encounter mangrove species such as Red Mangrove (Rhizophora mucronata), Orange Mangrove (Bruguiera gymnorhiza), White Mangrove (Avicennia marina), Cannonball Mangrove (Xylocarpus granatum), Blind-your-eye Mangrove (Excoecaria agallocha), and Nipa Palm (Nypa fruticans).

The experience encourages a closer look at how these remarkable plants survive in salty, tidal environments and how mangrove forests support coastal biodiversity. The route, footing, and suitable tide window will be confirmed before each outing, allowing the habitat to be explored safely and respectfully without disturbing its natural character.
